Fernando Alonso denied Saturday that he drove around Circuit de Catalunya without using his hands.
Aldo Costa, Ferrari’s technical chief, dismissed earlier suggestions that the F-duct solution was dangerous.
McLaren’s system, which is thought to be activated through the drivers’ knees was not activated in Barcelona. Instead, Felipe Massa and Alonso are activating the airflow on straights with their left hands.
Drivers often use their right hand to adjust the brake balance, sometimes simultaneously.
After qualifying, Alonso insists that he “always has his hands on the steering wheel.”
Onboard video clearly shows that Alonso has a black pad sewn to the knuckles his left glove. This allows him to block airflow and keeps his thumb on the wheel.
“There is no problem,” he told Germany’s Motorsport-Magazin.com.
