This makes it faster than the P1.

The McLaren is a fast car, with its 710-horsepower (520-kilowatts), 4.0-liter V8. This supercar can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and then accelerate to 220 mph (360 km/h) at the top speed. One owner took his new 720S to track to test its speed.

Dragtimes reports that a McLaren owner drove their 720S to ATCO Raceway, New Jersey in hopes that the vehicle would perform well in colder conditions. It did. During a private event the 720S ran a quarter-mile in 9.7 seconds at 147 mph (236 km/h), which was faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder (9.8s), LaFerrari (9.8s) or even the more powerful P1 (9.8s).

The 720S was stock except for a set tire heaters. It made three separate runs at more than 146 mph in 9.7 seconds each. The supercar completed the quarter-mile in 9.799 seconds and 146.50 mph. The second time was 9.788 seconds and 147.28 mph. The fastest time of the day was the third run, which took 9.733 seconds at an average speed of 146.72 miles.

These numbers are just weeks after we had video showing a 720S taking out supercars such as the Porsche 918, Ferrari F12 TDF and yes, even the dreaded Tesla Model S. The new 720S could actually be quicker than the company wants to admit. According to Dyno data, the supercar could produce 700 horsepower (521 kW) when driven at the wheels.

The new McLaren 720S is fast, regardless of what the case may be. These numbers prove it. It may one day be able to beat the Dodge Demon’s quarter-mile world record of 9.65 seconds at 140 MPH (225 kmh).
