The production of the Wrangler-based pickup truck will begin in approximately one year.
The rugged Crew Chief 715 concept was introduced by Jeep at the Moab Easter Jeep Safari last year. It is based on the Wrangler Unlimited’s previous generation. It was shaped like a pickup truck, with a fabric roof and a range of design cues that pay homage to various Jeep military vehicle such as the Kaiser M715.
Crew Chief 715 fans will be pleased to learn that the long-awaited Wrangler pickup truck, codenamed “JT”, is based on last year’s design. According to Automotive News, the utilitarian vehicle will come with an optional soft roof similar to the regular Wrangler. Owners will have the ability to lower or remove the soft top.
The Crew Chief 715 may have some styling elements that are similar to the Scrambler, but not the front grille. This will be true to the Wrangler’s heritage.
Jeep plans to unveil the Wrangler Unlimited and Wrangler Unlimited two-doors next week at Los Angeles Auto Show. It won’t be at the show as the pickup truck will not make its debut. Production at FCA Toledo Assembly Plant is scheduled to begin in November 2018.
Many spy photos have revealed that the testing phase of the model is well underway. The model has been in development for many years. We have seen the regular Wranglers in the open so we don’t expect any surprises when it comes to the design of the pickup model. The Scrambler may include a turbodiesel 3.0-liter engine V6 that will join the turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder and naturally aspirated Pentastar gasoline engines.
