Other variants will also be available with upgrades to the biturbo V8 of 4.0-liter capacity.
The Mercedes-AMG GT is getting a refresh. According to Autocar, the greatest upgrade for the performance car will be more power for most of the variants in its lineup. The powertrain upgrades will be accompanied by some styling changes. The new GT will go on sale in Europe in December 2018. However, the debut will be made several months earlier than expected.
Mercedes-AMG’s legendary 4.0-liter biturbo engine will now produce 500 horsepower (373kilowatts in the base GT) compared to 469 hp (353 kW) at present. Similar upgrades will preserve the output differentiation between the GT S, GT C trims. Autocar states that the GT R’s dry-sump lubrication system prevents AMG’s V8 from matching the output of the wet-sump version in the 603-hp, 450-kW HTML3_. However, an improvement is possible over the current 577 horsepower (430 kW).
Mercedes-AMG teases an more extreme version of the R before the GT’s refreshed version arrives. The new body kit is more aggressive and takes cues form the GT4 racecar. There’s also a new exhaust arrangement. The details are still unknown, but it is possible that the upgrades will include a firmer suspension.
Mercedes-AMG also has its four-door model (above), in development. The sleek sedan has a curving hood, steeply raked windows, and flowing roof. The cabin is high-tech and features a pair digital displays for infotainment and instruments. The division’s 4.0-liter Biturbo V8 is the power source. Later, a range-topping version might use a hybrid version with approximately 805 horsepower (600 megawatts). The North American International Auto Show in Detroit will likely host the premiere.
