Diesel sales are struggling, but the deals happen.
Volkswagen Group offers trade-in incentives and buyback deals to reduce consumer anxiety about diesel powertrains. After a German court ruled that a city can ban diesel powertrains to reduce smog in urban centers, this is a good move.
The VW Germany Guarantee applies to any new or used diesel vehicle purchased at a VW dealer between April 1 and December 31, 2018. Customers who may be affected by diesel restrictions in their cities will be able to take advantage of the offer for three years.
“Volkswagen is committed diesel and our current engines among the cleanest on market,” Thomas Zahn, Head Sales and Marketing Germany, stated in a statement. We offer our customers security and support when they choose diesel with the Germany Guarantee and the diesel environment incentive.
VW will also extend its trade-in program for three more months, ending June. The automaker will limit the program to new diesel cars that comply with strict environmental regulations.
In the wake of the court decision, the German automaker is not the only one offering incentives and deals. BMW allows drivers to return vehicles to their owners if they are affected by the ban . The program is only available to lease customers at first. Audi, Daimler and other manufacturers are also offering or extending trade-in incentives programs. According to Automotive News Europe, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has extended its trade in incentives until April.
Since VW discovered that it had installed cheat systems in its diesel powertrains to avoid emission tests, they have been under greater scrutiny. Diesel powertrains are further damaged by the German ruling banning them.
