This spring will see the debut of the diesel F-150.

Ford’s 2018MY F150 was unveiled exactly one year ago. It featured a number of improvements, including the promise of a diesel-powered engine. The Blue Oval has finally revealed the technical specs of the workhorse, equipped with the 3.0-liter Power Stroke Diesel engine. It will arrive in spring to increase the F-150’s number of engines.

Here are the numbers. 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts), the V6 produces 440 pound-feet (597 Newton meters) of torque at a low 1,750 RPM. The F-150 diesel-powered F-150 can tow 11,400 pounds and carry a payload of 2,020. Potential buyers are very concerned about fuel efficiency. The Blue Oval estimates that the pickup truck will get 30 MPG on the highway, according to the EPA. The final numbers will be available in the spring.

A standard 10-speed automatic transmission will pair with the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine to make it work with the Ford F-150. Ford engineers tweaked the SelectShift gearbox in order to maximize power and low-end torque, while optimizing fuel efficiency. This was further supported by standard start/stop technology.

Ford will open its order books in January for 2018 Ford F-150 with Power Stroke diesel engine. Customers will be able to place orders in spring. The 6-cylinder mill will be offered in both 4×2 or 4×4 versions. It will be available on the Lariat and King Ranch trucks as well as the SuperCab trucks with the 6.5-foot beds.
