Mercedes A-Class Displays Tech-Heavy Dashboard in Great Detail

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class will feature the brand-new Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment technology.

The Linux-based MBUX, which promises to revolutionize the cockpit, has made its debut at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. A variety of compact models will receive Mercedes’ new infotainment system. The first is the A-Class hatchback. The five-door model will not be available in the United States, but the sedan will. However, a camouflaged prototype made it to the Sin City. You can view it in the photo gallery.

This is everything you need to know about this new infotainment system.

The A Class base model will have a seven inch instrument cluster and a touchscreen. The touchscreen will be larger at Mercedes’ higher trim levels.

The base and the upgraded infotainment systems are powered by the same six-core CPUs. Both run on nVidia graphics chip. The MBUX will have 8GB RAM. This is, coincidentally, the same amount as my computer’s memory. If you are willing to spend more, you can opt for a head up display with a brightness of 12,000 cd/m2.

The MBUX will be found in both the A-Class hatchback as well as its sedan companion, the A-Class sedan. It also appears in the boxy, GLB crossover that was spotted earlier in the week. The tech-heavy infotainment system will be used by the CLA, and the next generation BClass minivan. Voice and gesture controls will be available for all models. The driver can adjust the settings and choose from three screen layouts: sport, modern, and understated.

MBUX will use HERE map data for hard-disc navigation. Owners can choose from 64 colors to create ambient lighting. The new infotainment system supports Near Field Communication (NFC) and USB Type C to allow for fast smartphone charging. This will please tech geeks.

Mercedes hasn’t yet revealed when the new A-Class will be fully revealed, but there is a German report that suggests the online debut could take place in the first month of next year. The Geneva Motor Show will host a public debut in March.
