It is safe to say that it has been removed for good.
The Chevrolet Traverse has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. GM Authority claims that dealers cannot place orders for the three-row SUV without the four-banger.
The LTG motor has been discontinued. This means that you can no longer buy a Traverse turbo. The only engine available for the model will be a 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated V6 mated with a nine-speed manual transmission.
The Traverse RS trim was the only one that offered the turbo-four 2.0-liter turbo-four. It produced 257 horsepower (192 kilowatts), and 295 poundfeet (405 Newton-meters) of torque. The same nine-speed automatic was used to pair it. Only available is the 3.6-liter V6. It produces 310 horsepower (231 kW), and 266 lb/ft (360 Nm).
GM Authority states that the reason for discontinuing the four-cylinder unit was General Motors’ desire to simplify the Traverse lineup for customers and production lines. The output and efficiency of the two engines was very similar, making the smaller engine unnecessary.
GM’s mid-2019 model-year decision was made. It will be interesting to see if the automaker plans to release a replacement engine for the 2.0-liter engine. The company has already revealed that a new four-banger codenamed LSY would be available to the refreshed GMC Acadia. It’s also expected that it will find its way under the hood the facelifted Cadillac XT5. It makes sense that the turbo unit will be included in the Traverse’s 2020 model year.
Last year’s Traverse update saw the introduction of the RS trim, which offers sporty exterior styling and interior tweaks. These include roof rails and black window trim, 20-inch wheels, RS badges, and roof rails.
