Everything spins and the side lifts out to reveal the internals.
If you didn’t know, Lego is open to all ages. We’ve seen amazing automotive creations by builders of all ages, and this functional engine is no exception. It’s actually quite different. The inline-six not only spins like it should but you can also remove engine parts to see how it works. This is so cool!
Leo is the Lego mill’s builder. It’s a scale model of an Australian Ford 4.0-liter I6. This engine is not your average engine. It’s the Barra turbocharged six that was used in high-performance Ford Falcon. This is actually his second Lego engine. The first was built back in March. It looks almost identical to the current one, except for the red cam cover. It’s here in the second video.
This engine has a removable cam cover, unlike the previous one. To see the crankshaft and pistons in action, you can remove the entire side . The attention to detail is amazing.
Leo even talks about how he created a flat-plane crank to replace the crossplane crank in the engine. To complete the package, all that is needed now is a Lego Falcon at proper scale. Is Leo up for the challenge? You never know what Leo might do, but he does have a 2014 Falcon XR6 Turbo.
In case you were wondering, Leo has submitted his brilliant engine to Lego Ideas in order to be considered for official Lego products. This would be an easy project to complete, as none of the parts are modified or painted with normal Lego bricks. The project has only 23 supporters and there are still 51 days to go. We’ll be supporting this build.
