2022 Toyota Aygo X City Car Teased Ahead of November Reveal

This is an all-Toyota effort. There are no Citroen C1 or Peugeot 108 siblings.

Although most European automakers are moving away from the A-segment now, Toyota believes it can still make a profit with its next-generation Aygo. The new, pint-sized Toyota car was not developed in collaboration with Peugeot or Citroen, as was the case for the previous model. Production will take place at Toyota’s Kolin plant in the Czech Republic.

The Aygo will now have the suffix “X”, pronounced “cross”, to signify its high-riding attitude. Toyota today confirmed the name of the production model as Aygo X. This is in keeping with the Aygo X Prologue concept, which was revealed back in March to show the preview for the road-going model.

It will be able to ride on the same TNGA B platform as the larger Yaris supermini. This platform also inspired a Yaris Cross compact crossover. The Aygo X is not known much else. However, Toyota previously confirmed that it would be powered by a combustion engine and not an EV. We are betting on a small, three-cylinder gasoline unit with less than 100 horsepower.

With the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108 both discontinued, the Aygo X will not have to worry about any rivals. / SEAT Mii trio. The Hyundai I10 will be their main rival, as the Renault Twingo is on borrowed time, and the Suzuki Ignis far from being in demand. The Kia Picanto and Fiat Panda are also competitors.

Toyota’s smallest vehicle (apart from its kei cars in Japan) will be available in November. This is the first major model change that has been planned, designed and manufactured in Europe.
