There will not be another Ultimate Series model beforethen.
Hypercars are not subject to the same life cycle as mainstream cars. There is usually a long wait between each generation. A follow-up to McLaren P1 will not be released in the near future, even though it was revealed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
Interview with Automotive News Mike Flewitt, McLaren CEO, announced that a spiritual successor of the P1 would be released around the middle decade. Woking will not release another Ultimate Series model before then. The Elva will be the last Ultimate model for quite some time.
It’s not surprising that we won’t get a new Ultimate Series vehicle in a few years, considering recent patent images showing a hypercar thought to be an Ultimate. The model is being called Sabre and it is believed to be a Senna-based hybrid with a confirmed 1,134 horsepower.
It is codenamed “BC-03”; it has been seen undergoing road testing in prototype. This suggests that McLaren has been working on the car for quite some time. Although the Sabre may not be considered an Ultimate car, an electrified Senna could certainly fill that role. There are no rumors that the Sabre will be canceled.
Although Mike Flewitt didn’t mention the Sabre in the interview, he did say that the Elva Ultimate car is the result of bad timing. “We launched it in the middle of a pandemic and lost a lot production capacity.” McLaren had to reduce production not only once but twice. The initial 399 unit production run was reduced to 249 units and then to just 199 units at $1.7 million per pop.
McLaren’s CEO stated that the next Ultimate car would be available “near 2025 when it comes to market.” This could indicate that an official unveiling might occur sooner.
