Drag Race Shelby GT350 Drag Race 900 HP GT500 Modded Mustang Fight

Spoiler alert! The Shelby wins.

It’s clear that this is a great time to be a fan of extreme horsepower and performance. The Dodge Challenger SUPER Stock has 800 horsepower straight out of the factory, while a host of Detroit-fueled muscle cars exceed 700 horsepower. This video doesn’t focus on Dodge, but it is about Ford where the power surpasses 900 horsepower. This one is a must-see.

The Mustang Shelby GT350 is a factory stock car and has no chance of beating the Shelby GT500. They are separated by approximately 240 horsepower, and the GT500’s supercharged V8 is a beast in straight-line sprints. The 2017 GT350 in this STANGMode video, however, is far from stock. It is a Hennessey tuned version with a Whipple supercharger, and a bunch of other mods. The current owner further modified it because it was still too slow with Hennessey’s touch alone. It is now tuned for drag racing, and has over 900 horsepower at the wheels. Yikes.

It should be able to dominate a stock GT500, but again, we’re not dealing with stock cars. This video shows the green GT500, which is still in development. It has upgraded cams and an engine tune. It is estimated to have more than 800 horsepower. This Shelby-versus Shelby drag race should be something.

This is especially true because this venue isn’t normal for drag racing. The action takes places at Pocono Raceway, Pennsylvania, a trioval NASCAR track that has a front straight nearly three-quarters mile long. Recent roll-race events were held at the track. Cars exited turn three and then accelerated to 60 mph, before going down the straight. It’s all about pure horsepower, not starting-line traction.

You would expect the GT350 to win, given its power advantage. Although we won’t spoil it, this is what we will do: Each race features two Shelbys, and both cars reach speeds of 150 mph. For more information on the cars and the background, you can either watch the 13-minute video or jump to the 5 minutes 45 mark to see the racing action.
