Hyundai Elantra, Ford F-150, Mustang Mach-E Win NACTOY Awards

These awards are for cars, trucks, or SUVs that were sold in America.

2020 is one of the most difficult years for automakers. This may be the year that electric power finally became mainstream. The North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year winners (NACTOY), reflect these changes. All of the winners this year are available with some degree of electrification. One is a pure electric vehicle.

The Hyundai Elantra was announced as the NACTOY car of the Year. The Ford F-150winning pickup truck and the Ford Mustang winning utility vehicle took home the awards. From a field that included 43 entries, the winners were narrowed down to three finalists. The Elantra won the car award over the Nissan Sentra and Genesis G80, while the new F-150 took the Jeep Gladiator Mojave as well as the Ram 1500 TX.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E, an all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E, won the utility category. This is perhaps the most important news. The Mach-E beat the Genesis GV80, the stylish Land Rover Defender to win the award. Some NACTOY jurors cited the Mach-E’s outstanding styling and performance as the standout features. The Mach-E is a crossover vehicle that has four doors and all-wheel drive, with seating for five and cargo space at the rear, it certainly stands out as a Tesla contender. Its Mustang branding also has attracted a lot of attention.

NACTOY jurors praised the F-150’s versatility, refinement and innovative features like the on-board generator for their win. A hybrid version of the F-150 is available, while a fully-electric model is in development. The Elantra is a striking vehicle that is attractive in design, has a variety of models, offers safety features, and is fun to drive. It’s also available in a hybrid like the F-150. However, enthusiasts may find the N-Line or the coming Elantra N more exciting. NACTOY Awards were presented for the first time in 1994. The jury consists of 50 automotive journalists from Canada and the USA. They represent all segments of the industry, including television and print media.
