Official Unveiling of the 2011 Audi A7 Sportback in Munich

The A7 will be equipped with four V6 engines, two petrol and two diesel. The body is made from lightweight aluminum and high-tech metals. It will have solid fuel economy with a variety of V6s.

Audi today unveiled the A7 Sportback in Munich.

Audi’s 5-door fastback coupe is Audi’s unique entry into the sport coupe segment. It has rear passenger doors. Audi describes it as an elegant coupe, sport sedan, and practical wagon.

The lightweight body of the A7 will be made from aluminum components and high-tech metals. This will make it possible to run a single set of V6 engines, at least for the first time. Audi is likely to add V8 powerplants to the mix in the future.

The A7’s chassis can be ridden on 18- to 20-inch wheels. It has aluminum control arms and an efficient electromechanical power steering. The A7 comes standard with a drive select system, but adaptive air suspension with controlled damping is available as an option.

Optional are the LED headlights, while standard bi-xenon taillights with LEDs are available.

Audi will offer two petrol and two diesel V6 engines. However, the 3.0 liter TDI engine with 150 kW (204 hp), has been left out. The top engine will be a 220kW (300hp) offering, but it doesn’t specify which V6.

Audi offers two V6 engines: a supercharged V6 petrol engine with 200 kW (272 PS), and a spinkier 3.0 liter TDI engine with 184 kW (253 PS), which can be used in the A7 Sportback.

All engines will be paired to automatic transmissions. The multitronic is for front-drive models, or the seven speed S tronic on Quattro-fitted vehicles. The new Quattro system features torque vectoring technology as well as a crown-gear central differential. It can transfer as much as 70% of the torque to the front wheels and as much as 85 percent back to the rear, depending on the application. For sportiness, the default power transfer ratio is 40/60. The new differential is lightweight and compact.

All models will be equipped with energy recuperation, thermal management and stop-start systems to increase fuel economy. The 3.0 liter TDI engine with 150 kW (204 hp), coupled with the A7 front-drive A7 multitronic gearbox, results in a fuel consumption of 5.3 liters/100 km and CO2 emissions at 139 g/km.

The A7 Sportback will be available in Europe this fall, with prices starting from EUR51,650.
