Volvo V40 render will make you fall in love with wagons instantlyWe wouldn’t change one thing.

We have high expectations for Volvo’s next-generation V40 after seeing leaked images of the V60. Although the current model is a five-door hatchback with a rear-wheel drive, the redesign will likely return the car to its wagon roots. This was when the S40 sedan was more practical. Teknikens Varild, our Swedish friends, have tried to predict the future of V40. Here’s what they came up with.

It’s coming to America:

The new V40 will make you love wagons. We can only hope that the real thing will look as good as this speculative design. These renderings could easily be mistaken for official Volvo images. We already envision a rugged V40 Cross Country to replace the XC40.

The next-gen V40, like the XC40 will be riding on the Compact Modular Architecture. It is expected to have a similar wheelbase. It makes sense that the two models share many of the same components, including an almost identical engine lineup and a similar suite of tech features.

The T5 Twin Engine will be the top-of-the range variant. Final technical specifications are not yet known. The plug-in hybrid powertrain will be available in the V40 by the end of the year. It combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electrical motor. The plug-in hybrid powertrain will eventually be available in 60-series cars. It will provide approximately 180 horsepower from the combustion engine, and 75 hp from an electric motor. A battery pack of nearly 10 kWh should be able to provide enough power for approximately 20 miles (32 km) of zero emissions in the real world.

The new V40 will likely debut before the end if the 40.2 concept showed almost two years ago.
