What if you don’t have a Hemi? No problem.
In October 2021 we reported on rumors about Stellantis working on a new inline-six engine. It would be able to run 2.9 liters and make it more accessible for global markets. A new report suggests that a modified version of this engine could be found under the hood the next-generation Dodge Challenger. This vehicle has a future as mysterious and uncertain as this engine.
This is a rumor at the moment so don’t take it too seriously. According to StellPower , anonymous sources told the website Stellantis was working on the GME T6 engine. This inline-six-cylinder unit could be used as a replacement for Hemi V8’s 5.7-liter displacement in the next-generation Challenger. According to this report, the Challenger will receive the new engine. It could be a Hemi replacement and produce 350-400 horsepower. The Challenger R/T’s current 5.7-liter V8 produces 375 horsepower.
Forced induction would be required to get there with a 3.0-liter I6. We can’t help but think of BMW’s six-pot, which produces up to 503 horsepower in just a few cases. It’s possible to see variants of this engine in a variety of Challenger models, from mild to wild. It’s not sacrilege to put an I6 in a Challenger. Chrysler built an I6 Hemi for the Australian-spec Valiant Charger. Today, the hot versions of this classic muscle car are very valuable.
We have contacted Dodge to verify this rumor. However, there isn’t much information about the engine or next-generation Challegner that has been circulated in newsrooms so it’s unlikely that we will find the truth any time soon.
