Let’s hope they come up with a better name for the F-Type 4-Door Coupe.
Jaguar could become the next automaker to join the four-door coupe train. There are plenty of candidates for a more elegant, luxurious four-door from the premium British brand. It already offers a few sedans. CarAdvice reports that Jaguar’s chief designer Ian Callum has not mentioned any of these cars. According to Australian media, the candidate for his new four-door coupe doesn’t even feature four seats. We’re talking about stretching out the stunning F1_.
Callum stated that the notion of four doors is fascinating because it was originally created by Jaguars. The MercedesBenz then took over the CLS and created this car genre, which truly belonged to Jaguar. “The four-door sports cars are our rightful place in certain ways.
Callum does not specify which Jaguar he believes has blazed the trail for four-door coupes. We assume he is referring to the XJ. It has the swept-roof shape people associate with the modern four-door coupe. You could argue that the older XJ models, especially those from the late 1960s, have a sweeping roof. However we wouldn’t call them a coupe. The Mark X has a distinct coupe-like arc and side windows. It is still a four-door coupe, which seems to be a radical interpretation of what the text says.
Callum quickly mentions in his interview that he does not have any comment on whether plans are being made to build a four-door F-Type. The new Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has been a big hit and it is not surprising that Jaguar and other automakers have begun to take a closer look at this model. It shouldn’t take too much for Mercedes to make the AMG GT even more amazing, so it should not be difficult to make the F-Type. Right?
