The 1.6-liter turbo engine has been discontinued. It is replaced by a 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder.
At the New York Auto Show, Hyundai unveils major changes to the 2019 Tucson. The updated crossover looks more like its bigger sibling, the new 2019 Santa Fe. The interior has been completely redesigned, as well as a wide range of driver assistance tech.
Hyundai has a modified trapezoidal grille in the front that is sharper than the current one. The center now has four slats, instead of the previous three. The headlights now have L-shaped LED running lights. Although the changes to the rear aren’t as dramatic, the updates include smoother taillights. The Limited trim level also features extra chrome trim.
Even more changes were made to the cabin. Hyundai’s designers have redesigned the center stack so that Hyundai’s infotainment system rises above the dashboard instead of integrating into it. The vents can now be moved below the screen and not along the edges. The updated instrument cluster now includes an electronic parking brake.
The 2019 Tucson may make it more comfortable for Tucson owners because Hyundai has improved the safety tech. Standard features include forward collision-avoidance assistance and lane keeping aid. There are also adaptive cruise control with stop and go traffic support, a surround-view monitor, and adaptive cruise controller. High beam assist, rain sensing wipers and a second-row USB charger are some of the new equipment available to drivers.
The standard Tucson comes with a 2.0-liter four cylinder that produces 164 horsepower (122 Kilowatts) as well as 151 pound-feet (237 Newton-meters). The 2.4-liter four cylinder is 181 horsepower (135 kW), 175 lbft (237 Newton-meters) and replaces the 1.6 liter turbo four that produces 175 HP (130 kW), and 195 Lb-ft (326 Nm). The 2019 model features a six-speed auto transmission.
The Value and SE trims come with the 2.0-liter engines. The 2.4-liter engine is available in the SEL, Sport, and Limited grades. Pricing details and availability of the updated model will be announced closer to launch.
