This is not your typical show car.
The. Each example is unique in its own way, whether it’s the tumbler featured in the Christopher Nolen movies or from the original Tim Burton version. In a YouTube video, Mike Fernie from Drivetribe showed a working replica of the original Chariot.
The actual movie cars were built on the basis of a Chevy Impala. This replica is built around the 1965 Ford Mustang. You should take this with a grain, though. The car is 20 feet (6 meters) long and is built from a space frame chassis. It is mated to fiberglass panels
Except for the slide-out door that allows you to enter the cockpit, the rest of the interior components are extremely useful – many of them being specifically designed for motorsport. This car is quite different from the original film vehicles, which were powered by a jet-turbine engine of 10,000 horsepower (7.457 kilowatts). It was capable of propelling the vehicle up to 300 mph (483 km/h) and beyond.
The video shows a 5.7-liter Chevrolet V8 engine that produces 380 horsepower (283 kW) and is much less powerful. The car looks like it has two turbos, but they are not real and don’t connect to the engine.
It doesn’t matter, as Fernie was able to drive the Batmobile replica around a small track for a few laps. Piloting the vehicle at low speeds was a daunting task with a slow and vague brake pedal. Fernie described the driving experience after all was said and done.
