Let’s all hope Honda decides to make it a reality.
The Honda Urban Electric EV concept was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 to great surprise. It quickly gained our affection. It was voted the best vehicle at the event along with heavyweights such as the Mercedes-AMG Project One and the Bentley Continental GT. We can now imagine the beloved concept in production clothes.
If Honda decides to make the Urban EV concept a reality, this concept shows what it could look like. It features many of the same elements as the original concept. This includes boxy proportions and a unique grille and headlight design. This model, unlike the original concept, is more easily produced with standard halogen lights and fog lights. It also has new wheels.
The body is finished in a rich shade of red with a two-tone white roof, running board detail and dark blue accents near the bottom. This new pattern is especially appropriate for the retro-styled, yet updated vehicle.
This isn’t a design exercise. Rumors suggest that the Honda Urban Electric EV might actually go into production. In March Philip Ross, Senior Vice President of Honda Europe, stated that the order books for the Urban Electric Vehicle in Europe would open in “early 2019”. It is not clear if the same retro styling cues will be carried over to the production version.
The Urban EV is the first of a long list of fully electric and hybrid Honda vehicles in the coming years. Every new Honda in Europe will have an electrified engine. The goal is to make two-thirds of all new cars sold in Europe fully electric or hybrid by 2025 and then globally by 2030.
