Mercedes could be the next-generation platform for the Z sports car.

The Nissan 370Z has been around a decade and is showing its age. Slow sales are also a problem. So, hopefully the Japanese automaker will soon introduce a new model. There are a variety of reports that claim a Z sports car will arrive before the end of the decade, but none is confirmed.

Our talented artists were asked to imagine a future 370Z successor. The result is this spectacular sports coupe. The basic proportions of today’s model are retained, but it adds some aggressive elements like the V-shaped fascia and muscular fenders.

According to recent rumors, the next Z car could be based upon a Mercedes-Benz platform. There could be a variety of Mercedes-sourced engines in the architecture, including a turbo 2.0-liter and a biturbo V6 that can produce as much as 400 horsepower (298kilowatts). The next-generation InfinitiQ60 will share the engine lineup.

According to reports from British media, there is also a more powerful Nismo being considered for 2021. It could get an all-wheel-drive and 475 horsepower (354 kW). It is possible that a hybrid powertrain might also be on the horizon.

A new Z car is expected to debut at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. We have not seen any prototypes yet and Nissan is still very quiet about the future of the sports car. According to reports, the next-gen model is low on the priority list within the company. However, the good news is that it will actually happen within a few years.

Nissan only delivered 1,243 370Zs through April. In 2010, there were 10,215 370Zs sold. Last year, 4,614 of them were sold.
