A smaller SUV and the next-gen Quattroporte are also in development.
Sergio Marchionne is the CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and has shared today what FCA has in tow between now 2022 for Maserati.
It is safe to say that Maserati’s lineup needs a major overhaul. The plan is to revamp the entire family within the next four-years. The roadmap, published today as part of Marchionne’s last grand plan before his retirement, shows that both the Ghibli sedans and the Quattroporte sedans are on the way to a new generation. It will be completed by 2022.
The Levante is another nameplate that will be updated. Maserati has also released some details about a smaller SUV. It will be ideal at 50/50 in weight and will offer not only the best-in class lightweight platform but also the best-in class power-to-weight ratio. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is promised to deliver “superior ride quality and handling”.
The Levante, Quattroporte, and Quattroporte will receive an electrified powertrain. They will also get a plug-in hybrid setup. Just like the midsize SUV, they will have a 50/50 weight distribution. This is due to a modular platform that allows for a dynamic all-wheel drive system.
The best news is that Maserati will bring the Alfieri on the market in a coupe as well as a convertible. Both body styles will be available as pure electric models in the Maserati Blue lineup, which also includes the previously mentioned Quattroporte and Levante .
These “Blue” cars will be able to benefit from an all-wheel-drive, three-motor setup with torque vectoring. The promise of “over 50% more power”, along with an extended range and short charging times, is accompanied by a lightweight construction that has minimal impact on the space available in the cabin.
Maserati will have eight plug-in hybrid cars and four completely electric models in its eco portfolio by 2022. The company will gradually phase out diesels over the next four years to further improve its range.
