Bugatti Veyron reaches 208 MPH and hits barriers during deceleration

Warning: This video does not have a happy end.

What would you do if you were in a Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse and you had an enclosed runway all to yourself? It would be tempting to try and hit the top speed of 200+ mph or to feel what it is like to drive a hypercar with 1,183 horsepower. This is a simple decision.

This is what the guy in the video did with the uploader, who was riding shotgun. The $2-million Bugatti was ready to eat cement. We couldn’t be more excited, whether we were the passenger or the driver. Rare hypercars are not often available. They have a reputation for being some of the most powerful ever made. The Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse actually managed 254.04 mph making it the fastest car on the planet at one time. If that doesn’t excite you, we don’t know what will.

However, as the title of this article suggests, the would-have-been-awesome speed run didn’t end pretty well. Although the Veyron was capable of reaching 208 mph (although that’s difficult to see on the video; we will just have to believe the uploader), the driver failed to perform the most important part of speed runs: brake.

The Veyron was slowing down, and the barriers that were coming closer to it until it came close approached the hypercar. The video owner explained that the driver did not brake enough. The driver was approaching the corner at 110 mph. This was too fast for a hypercar of 1,990 kg (4,387 lb).

It was difficult to see the crash, especially when you consider the damage done to the Veyron’s front end. It is almost certain that the right side of the headlamp was damaged, as well as the large scratches on the grille and hood. This would be expensive to fix. Ouch.
