Suzuki Jimny Production Ends, Next Generation Debuting Late 2018

You don’t have to wait, so get the model you want now.

On August 23, 2017, the first images of the next generation, and very beloved Jimny were revealed to the world. This was probably a dealer presentation. Now, it’s April 2018, and Suzuki has yet to reveal the cute off-roader. According to the latest information, a debut is planned for the latter half of 2018.

Autocar learned from a Suzuki spokesperson that production of the ex-Jimny has ceased. The company is currently retooling and getting ready to welcome the new model. You will have to settle with an existing vehicle and you won’t be able to place an order for a customized Jimny. There are only 200 remaining units, so don’t wait to order the fourth generation.

The Jimny was redesigned to replace a model that dates back to 1998. In spy photos, it looked almost like a mini G Class and even more charming without the disguise. We know that Suzuki will keep the body-on frame construction and the 4×4 system with low gearing, so the next Suzuki model will be a true off-roader.

Suzuki hopes to increase sales in Europe by 20% with the new-gen model. It will also try to attract buyers with improved road handling and off-road abilities while trying to drive more people to Europe. Although the Jimny’s retro-styled boxy shape will be retained, the dimensions will likely increase. The interior will be updated with a Swift-derived dashboard with touchscreen infotainment.

The 2019 Jimny’s cheapest models will probably be stuck with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine, while the more expensive versions will have the turbocharged 1.0 Boosterjet engine rated to 110 horsepower and 125 pound feet (170 Newton-meters of torque) in the Baleno. Suzuki will not be making a diesel engine, so don’t expect to wait.

The new Jimny will be delivered to customers in the first quarter of next year.
