Epic Fun: Driving a Drift Taxi around the Ebisu Circuit

Japan is a great place to visit.

A disclaimer is required before we can begin. If you are a professional drifter or you’re at a racetrack where drifting takes place, you should not drive your car for more than 45 minutes. You should be careful with your gas and handbrake. This video will make you want to drift all day .

The drift taxi is the next step. You can’t call up the ride to take you around your town through the side windows. You can purchase this experience at Japan’s Ebisu Circuit. It is home to seven different race tracks as well as two skid pads that are used for general automotive fun. It hosts many racing events throughout the year, including Japan’s D1 Grand Prix series. But it’s only when there isn a race taking place that things really get interesting.

The tracks are available for everyone to try, just like the Nurburging. There’s also a taxi service that will take you around the circuits, shuffle you along like a boss drifter, if you’re willing to be a passenger. We are happy if Alexi, a person who was there for the track experience, shows us.

The circuit has two Toyota Mark II and a Chaser sedan to accommodate armchair drivers. Each car is tuned to produce upwards of 400 horsepower. The cars can also be equipped with racing seats in the front and back for three people. Professional drifters drive the cars, performing everything from doing donuts on the skidpad to sideways action at low speeds on many of the courses. The video shows that drivers aren’t afraid to show off.

What is the cost of a drifting experience with a professional opposite-lock instructor? One-hour track excursion costs Y=25,000, plus Y=500 insurance. This translates into about $230 in American greenbacks. This sounds like a great deal for an experience, but the best part is that the cost of the trip is not per person. It’s for your car. If you split the cost three ways, insurance is the only additional. This means that an hour of crazy drifting with two friends would cost only $80 each.

There is one catch. You can’t just go in and purchase a ride. If you are planning to travel to Japan in the near future you will need to register with the track ahead of time. This is because this type of thing seems to be very popular. It’s hard to believe why.
