This year, the Si will compete in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
Honda unveiled the 11th-generation Civic in April. It introduced a completely new model. Although we were unsure how Civic’s new styling would translate to the sportier Si trim, our first set of teasers provides a good indication. Honda is preparing the Civic Si for this year’s 25 Hours of Thunderhill. It’s showing off a camouflaged test car with a huge rear wing.
Although the camouflage wrap is tight, it looks very similar to the standard sedan. Although the front fascia is unchanged, there’s a large chin spoiler that hangs from the bumper. The rear features a large wing with dual exhaust tips hidden under the familiar bumper. Although the rear fascia appears a little more aggressive, we will need to take a closer look. Although we doubt that the huge wing will make it into the production model, we expect it to have a wing that honors it’s boldness.
Honda has given the model a complete overhaul for its 11th generation. However, the powertrain lineup is unchanged. There were improvements in power and fuel efficiency. Although the turbocharged 1.5-liter four cylinder engine found in the current Si will remain, the next-generation Si should have a slightly higher output. Current-gen Si produces 205 horsepower (153 Kilowatts) as well as 192 pound-feet (226 Newton-meters), of torque.
Although the Civic Si is expected to be on dealer lots by the end of this month, Honda has not yet announced a debut date. Honda promised it would be revealed soon. We expect to see the production version breaking cover before the racing version. The race version will be at Thunderhill on December 3. You’ll find it in several colors: Crystal Black Pearl and Aegean blue metallic, Red Sonic Gray, Platinum White Pearl and Blazing Orange. The performance-oriented Civic type R will be available sometime next year.
