McLaren 600LT adds power and lightness to 570S

McLaren’s fourth-ever Longtail packs 592 horsepower, and weighs 211.6 lbs less than the standard 570S Coupe.

McLaren’s Sports Series has a new range-topper, the 600 Longtail. The LT is positioned above the 570S, which it was based on. It has a modified carbon fibre body that’s 2.9 inches longer than the donor car. This makes it 7.3 centimeters longer. The new model also has top-exit tips that are part of an exhaust system that is shorter than the hardcore Senna.

The 600LT may look familiar to Woking-based fans, but the 600LT has undergone a number of modifications to reduce its weight by 211.6 pounds (95.98 kg) and allow for a remarkable dry weight, 2,749.2 lbs (1.247 kg). This figure includes all McLaren Special Operations lightweight goodies. These items include a carbon-fiber roof and vented frontfenders made of the same lightweight, yet extremely durable material.

The 600LT is a standout when compared to the 570S. It has an extended front splitter and new side sills. There’s also a longer diffuser at back, where there’s also fixed wings to increase downforce and aid aerodynamics. McLaren says the Longtail has 23% more new parts than the 570S.

The 600LT has a modified bodywork. Inside, there are significant modifications where buyers can purchase the P1’s carbon fibre racing seats. You can also borrow lighter carbon seats from the Senna to reach that impressively low curb weight.

The 570S Coupe has 562 horsepower and 443 pounds-feet (600 Newton meters) of torque. However, the 600LT increases the power output to 592 HP and 457 lb/ft (620Nm). The upgraded biturbo V8 engine of 3.8-liters has an additional 30 hp (600 Newton-meters) and 14 lb/ft (20 Nm). This allows the Longtail to achieve a power-toweight ratio of 474 horsepower / ton when equipped with all the lightweight options.

Although performance numbers are not available, 600LT’s power and weight should easily surpass the 570S. The 570S takes 3.2 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), and 9.5 seconds at standstill to reach 124 mph (202 km/h), before reaching a top speed of 204 mph (392 kph).

McLaren doesn’t say how many, but it does state that production will be “strictly restricted” and will not last more than 12 months. Assembly will begin in October. Details about pricing for the United States will be made at a later time. McLaren will provide the assistance necessary to make the experience even better for those who are able to claim one.
