The engine sounds amazing and looks great in the composite body.
According to BMW , they don’t intend to make a more powerful version of the as customers seem happy with the current power output of the hybrid coupe. Hamofa Motor Sport offers the solution. While 369 horsepower (275kilowatts), might seem sufficient for road use, racers often want more power. This vehicle is a competition-spec version of the i8 but has a high-tech hybrid engine that replaces the high-tech hybrid with a race-prepped naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter V8 that produces 540 horsepower (402.3 kilowatts). It is called the i8 GTR by the firm.
Although the machine may look like an i8, it is actually a classic example in silhouette racing. It has the appearance of a road-going car but is totally different beneath. This model is made by Solution F, a French company. It contributes to its low weight of 2,425 lbs (1,100 kg). The 4.0-liter V8 is located right behind the bulkhead, which separates the powertrain and driver. The mill is very low as shown in the video. A roof-mounted scoop distributes cool air to powerplant and a beautiful set of tubular headers exhausts it out the back. It is difficult to get into the cockpit due to the high road-scraping ride height.
This engine is from the BMW Z4 GTE, and GT3 race car engines. It sounds incredible during the Belcar event at Zolder.
Hamofa’s video gives a more detailed look at the i8 GTR, as well as a closer look at its engine and chassis. You can also hear it a bit more at the end.
