Chevrolet’s centennial celebration marked by the ‘Future’ concept model.
GM Korea’s Chevrolet Miray (pronounced Miray) concept was unveiled at the 2011 Seoul Motor Show. It is a mid-electric hybrid sports car.
The Miray, which means “future” in Korean, was created to commemorate Chevrolet’s centennial anniversary. It will be celebrated this year.
The powertrain of the concept consists of two front-mounted, electric motors that produce 15 kW (20 BHP / 20 PS) power for the front axle. A 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine mounted in the rear drives the back wheels. The 1.6 kWh lithiumion battery pack provides the current for the electric motors. It is recharged by regenerative brake.
The Miray can run on just electric power, but the petrol engine can kick in when more power is required. Chevrolet didn’t provide performance or range figures.
The design is inspired by Chevy’s heritage, and takes cues from models like the 1963 Monza SS or the 1962 Corvair Super Spyder for its aesthetics. The front fascia has a split grille and the lines are sharper than the smooth, slightly rounded surfaces. Carbon panels are used for spoilers and other body parts. The Miray also comes with 21-inch wheels at the rear and 20 inch wheels at its front.
The interior features the ‘future design’ with its central console-mounted start button and ambient lighting, as well as a dual-cockpit design that allows for the driver and the passenger to interact.
