It appears that the engine is about ripping from the car.
Hennessey loves his Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. This drag car is built for the road and produces 840 horsepower thanks to its supercharged V8 engine. This is a great platform to add power. Hennessey loves doing this. Sometimes, it seems that the company is almost too excited for this kind of fun. Aftermarket tuning company HPE1000 and HPE1200 offer two packages for Demons. The HPE1200 Demon is seen stretching its legs in the dyno video. It packs a serious punch at it’s wheels.
The Demon is shown with the HPE1200 engine, which delivers 1,013 horsepower to the rear tires and 954 pound-feet torque to them. This is a 16 percent drivetrain loss. The company doesn’t list details on how Hennessey increases power, but they do have information. It’s likely to be a significant amount of work, which includes a new supercharger and high-flow exhaust and catalysts, throttle body upgrades, high flow fuel injectors and a tune by Hennessey.
The Hennessey Demon HPE1000, the entry-level package for drag cars, clocks a quarter mile in 9.14 seconds . So the HPE1200 should be faster. The HPE1000 Demon has 880 horsepower and 806 lb.ft torque, but it feels a bit slower than the HPE1200.
The video shows the Demon straining against its tie-downs while it accelerates on a dyno. The engine can also tilt and buck under full throttle. All that torque seems to want to take the engine out of the car. It also sounds very alarming.
Hennessey offers some incredible performance packages for already high-performance cars. This 16 percent drivetrain loss is a testament to how committed the team are to optimizing drivetrain efficiency in order to get all that horsepower to your tires. If you want to be the best Demon at the track, this is the package for you.
