The controversial grille is not going to be used by the next 5er.

We’ve seen plenty of spy photos showing the 3 Series facelift/EV, and the next-generation 7 Series. So it’s only fair that we get to see the new 5er. The G60-generation 5 Series was seen for the first times. It is heavily camouflaged, and does not have the final taillights. Similar to the strategy BMW will use for the bigger 7 Series

The new 5 will be available in a plug-in hybrid or electric version. They share a lot of the same body as the traditionally powered model. Bavaria will not be able to produce a dedicated EV until 2025, when the Neue Klassee will return as a bespoke platform for electric cars. BMW will continue to launch electric cars on platforms that were originally designed for ICE-powered cars until then.

The stickers on the rear bumper and front doors indicated that the PHEV and EV versions were discovered by our spies. To conceal the charging port on the prototype’s combustion engine, the prototype had a cap at the front fender. Under the rear bumper is the dual exhaust arrangement.

The new door handle design was similar to the . This allows for more aerodynamics as the handles are flush with the doors and not sticking out of the body. The prototypes have extra camouflage in some areas. However, it appears that the new 5 Series will not be receiving the same love/hate grille design as the M3, 4 Series and M4. Although the dual kidneys appear to be quite large, they don’t extend all the way down.

The car’s shark-like front end appears to be lower than the current model. This gives the 5 Series a more aggressive look, without the split headlights of the 7 Series, X7 facelift and X8 /. The trunk lid has a subtle spoiler, and the dashboard is fully camouflaged. This is likely a sign that the cabin will undergo a complete overhaul. It could be the dual-screen layout with a 12.3 inch driver’s screen and a 14.9 inch infotainment display, as seen in the iX or i4 electric models.

This is our first glimpse at the new 5 Series. An official unveiling will not take place anytime soon. The sedan version could arrive in the second half 2022, while the more practical wagon will follow shortly. It’s unlikely that the oddball 6 Series Gran Turismo ( it’s still available) will be returning for a new generation.
