It’s more than a concept.
The El-Born, an all-electric concept designed by SEAT was first revealed in March 2013. The production version has been revealed by the company’s performance brand Cupra. It will be named the same as the concept car and assembled at Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant.
The Cupra’s El-Born version has seen a few visual improvements, including a sharper front fascia and two-tone wheels. Side skirts are also wider. Although the interior layout remains the same, it now has a variety of materials that are most recyclable and bucket seats. A new steering wheel is also available.
The familiar skin conceals a 77-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This provides a maximum range between two charges of 310 miles (500 km) and a maximum range up to 310 miles (500 km). The EV can charge up to 161 miles (260km) in 30 minutes thanks to fast-charging technology.
The zero-emission hatchback can travel 31 miles an hour (or 50 kilometers per hour) in 2.9 seconds. The Dynamic Chassis Sport (DCC Sport), which adapts to road conditions automatically, was also created by engineers. It offers “a superior level in driving dynamics.”
Wayne Griffiths, Cupra CEO, says that Cupra El-Born embodies all the Cupra brand’s genes and has been reengineered to improve the technology content. Cupra El-Born proves that electrification and performance can be a great match.
Cupra plans to launch the production El-Born sometime in 2021.
