The SUV can adjust each corner individually using optional tech.
The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLE-Class is finally here after many spy shots. The new updated machine sits in the middle the German brand’s SUV range and brings lots of cutting-edge technology to the segment.
Mercedes claims that the 2020 GLE-Class is the most aerodynamic model of its class, with a drag coefficient 0.29 compared to 0.32 in the previous generation. The SUV’s slippery form is offset by a 3.15 inch (80 millimeter) increase in the wheelbase to 117.9 inches (2.995 mm). People in the second row have 2.7 inches (69mm) more legroom at the rear and 1.3 inches (33.3 mm) more headroom. To increase the total capacity of seven passengers, buyers can now add an optional third row that includes two additional seats.
Mercedes does not have powertrain information for the GLE 450 4Matic, which has a mild hybrid 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine. It generates 362 horsepower (270 Kilowatts) as well as 369 pound-feet (369 Newton-meters), and an electric motor can provide additional boosts of 21 hp (16kW) or 184 lb/ft (265 Nm). The mill can be connected to a nine speed automatic gearbox.
However, the company confirmed that a plug in hybrid and turbodiesel will be added to their powertrain lineup later.
Mercedes’ latest driver assistance aids are available for the GLE, which includes a system that can make managing traffic much easier. Active Distance Assist is Distronic, which monitors LiveTraffic, detects stop-and go traffic ahead and then slows the vehicle to 62 miles an hour (100 km per hour). The onboard sensors are able to quickly react to stop-and-go traffic ahead and slow down the vehicle at this speed.
The optional E-Active body control system is available to provide a smoother ride. The 48-volt electrical system adjusts the dampers of the air suspension at each corner. Mercedes claims that the same system can raise or lower the suspension to help you get off-road. This “changes ground pressure and improves traction.”
New GLE-Class features the latest MBUX infotainment systems. It has a 12.3 inch (31.2 centimeters) digital instrument cluster and an infotainment display that’s the exact same size. An optional head-up display can be ordered that is twice as large and 20% brighter than the original. Mercedes also offers the optional Energizing system, which adjusts the cushion and backrest to accommodate changes in body position. This makes for a more comfortable ride.
In October, the GLE-Class will be unveiled at Paris Motor Show. The GLE-Class will be available in the United States and Europe by early 2019. Mercedes will also announce pricing closer to the launch. The new SUV will be built at the company’s Tuscaloosa plant.
