This is why street racing is so stupid.
This video demonstrates why street racing is dangerous and stupid. Although we won’t be too preachy, there are many moments of facepalm in this crazy video. First, the Fox Body Ford Mustang driver sustained only minor injuries. No other people were involved. That’s a good thing. It’s amazing that he survived, considering the fact that this ‘Stang was almost cut in half.
We don’t know the exact location of the crash nor any details about the driver or car. This clip could be taken from any street in America, so it doesn’t really matter. The car could also be any garage project that was built by someone with more mechanical skills than common sense. We say this because it is true. Let’s start with the location.
This section of road looks straight, and is quite isolated, but if it were a track, the car would have bounced off a concrete wall rather than impaling itself on an overhead telephone pole. The entire road is lined with telephone poles at the shoulder . You can easily see the dangers of making a small error.
Although the Mustang appears to be full of power, it seems that it doesn’t have a roll cage. For high-powered drag racing cars in the National Hot Rod Association, such equipment is required. It’s tempting not to follow these measures when building a janky racing car. But a cage isn’t difficult to put together and the cost of building one is negligible. This is especially true for the Fox Body Mustang, which may not be the most structurally sound. This car would have stayed together if a proper cage had been installed. The front clip is almost perpendicular with the rest of this car.
The driver was dressed in the same clothing we would choose for a leisurely commute to the coffee shop. We can’t even see the helmet on this guy’s head. You can purchase a Snell-certified helmet with full-face protection for less than $200 or a generic helmet for as low as $100. This is a pathetic price for anyone who even considers drag racing.
The video shows that the driver sustained a broken shoulder and jaw, as well as losing a few teeth. His jaw and teeth might have been fine if he had worn a full-face helmet. His shoulder would have been fine if the car had a roll-cage. He would probably still own a car if he had spent $20 on a test-and tune night.
This video has many life lessons. What is the biggest? People, take it to the track.
