Cadillac has something to offer, regardless of its model name.
General Motors is testing a strange Cadillac test mule, but it may be a sign of something more. Although the vehicle uses the majority of the exterior panels from the CTS–V, extra panels increase the width of the sedan’s front fenders. The wider rear area is also covered by an unpainted bumper. It is difficult to determine if this is a CTS V under the skin, or if it is its successor, a performance-oriented CT5.
According to reports, the new CT5 will go into production in 2019’s second half as a 2020 model-year vehicle. This might allow Caddy’s engineers enough time to make a more difficult variant of the CTS-V.
It’s likely that the CT5 will eventually include a performance variant. Although it takes many years to create a new vehicle these photos might be the first glimpse at Caddy’s fast version.
The CTS-V’s existing CTS-V is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 from General Motors. It produces 640 horsepower, and 630 pound-feet torque. If this sedan is more powerful, there’s still some room for it to increase its output. The Corvette Z06 has 650 horsepower and 650 lb.ft. Cadillac could fit more rubber under the car thanks to the wider fenders.
The CT5-V test mule might be a CT6-V variant with a 4.2-liter twin turbo Blackwing V8. It produces 550 horsepower and 627 lbft. Cadillac may reduce the power output for the smaller model in order to make a performance difference.
