To expand the space in the bed, a panel located at the rear of your cargo area opens.
The Volkswagen Tarok Concept is officially unveiled at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show, a week after teased the versatile pickup. VW has made it clear that there will be a production version. According to the company, the road-going model is “barely any different” from the one on display.
The Tarok has a stylish front with plenty of lighting, including illumination across grille slats as well as around intakes in lower fascia. The truck’s back is accented by a metallic C-pillar. A panoramic sunroof is also part of the concept. The entire rear end is covered by taillights.
The interior is simple and elegant. Modern amenities include a large infotainment display and a digital instrument panel. This tech is not yet available in the production version.
The Tarok Concept’s bed is where it stands out from other pickups. This layout is inspired by the older Chevrolet Avalanche and features an opening panel that allows for cargo to be extended into the cabin. Although the bed is 47.48 inches (1.206 millimeters long), folding down the rear seats and opening the hatch expands the space to 73.27 inch (1.861 mm). VW estimates that the Tarok’s payload weighs in at around 1,000 kilograms (2.205 pounds).
Tarok Concept is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder of 1.4 liters that produces 148 horsepower (110kilowatts). You can either run it on pure ethanol, or a gasoline-ethanol mixture. The power can be slowed down by the all-wheel drive system and six-speed automatic gearbox. The production model will have a different powerplant, a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 148 horsepower will be the only one available.
