2022 Maserati Grecale SUV Returns In Best Spy Photos To Date

You bet you don’t see camouflaged cars every day.

Maserati began its rejuvenation before parent company FCA merged into PSA to create Stellantis. The sporty Italian brand, Maserati, is now part of the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world. The company sporting the Trident badge has expanded the family to include the MC20 supercar. However, it is currently preparing a more significant model if we are strictly speaking about sales volume.

The new Grecale will slot below the larger Levante. It will be approximately the same size and shape as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which you can also see in these spy photos from our friend Walter Vayr. Many prototypes of Maserati’s second SUV were spotted covered up, including the wheels. The SUV isn’t boring, as the quad exhausts at its rear and the air vents at the top are chunky.

The camo headlights are somewhat similar to the MC20, if you look closely. The Levante’s taillights are flatter than the Levante’s and have a narrower design. They are also bisected by a metallic trim that is nearly twice as wide as the tailgate. The Grecale is a markedly different Levante despite its heavy disguise. We are also getting the impression that it is more than a Stelvio rebadged.

The base model will be powered by Maserati’s mild hybrid 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline motor. The MC20 could be equipped with a hotter version of the Nettuno engine. It produces 621 horsepower and 538 pound feet of torque. The Grecale is expected to be more powerful than the Stelvio Querifoglio, which has a twin-turbo V6 of 2.9-liters that produces 505 horsepower and 443 lb.ft (600 Nm).

Maserati also plans to launch an electric powertrain. The teaser campaign for the combustion-engined Grecale is well underway and should be revealed within the next months.

We are tempted to think that the camouflaged Alfa Romeo Giulia is camouflage. This could be a test mule for GranTurismo’s next-generation GranTurismo. It was teased last week by Maserati with its final production body.
