Collaboration in action.
This week’s winter weather paralyzed the country, putting Texas in a dangerous deep freeze and many other states struggling to provide COVID-19 vaccines. Many Americans are affected by the slippery roads and snow covered roads in the United States. This has forced the states to send an army of snowplows and deicing trucks. The trucks move slowly across cities clearing the roads. This was captured recently in Kentucky.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet uploaded a video to their Facebook page. It shows seven snowplows of different sizes and shapes clearing snow from I-75’s barrier wall. This is an important north-south corridor connecting Michigan and Florida. The highway is three lanes, but the snow plows also cleared the shoulders. The lead truck was positioned against the barrier, and they took a staggered position. They worked together, pushing snow from one side to the other and onto the grass beyond the shoulder.
The last few weeks have seen snow- and ice-covered roads prove deadly. It is crucial to quickly and efficiently clear them for traffic. A gaggle of support vehicles is also shown in the Kentucky video, providing a buffer between trucks and the backed-up traffic. Although the clearing can add a few minutes to your morning commute, it is a great safety feature.
This video shows the immense effort required to remove snow from the highway barrier. Similar effort is needed to clear the driving lanes and many other two-, three, and four-lane roads throughout the country. Changeable weather conditions can make it difficult to keep roads clear. Poorly plowed roads can cause dangerous travel and make it difficult for first responders to arrive at the scene. Although plowing roads can be a tedious job, many people across the country have been heroes this week.
