It will go on sale next month. However, only 10 copies will make it to the United States.
Audi now has a new R8 in stock and ready to ship right in time for the holidays. The 2018 R8 Plus Coupe Competition package will be made available in November. However, it may sell out faster than you can say its long name. Audi will only send 10 supercars that are aero-tweaked and track-focused to the United States. They’re identical down to the Suzuka Gray exterior.
This very limited-edition supercar focuses on improving the already impressive performance of the V10 Plus. This is achieved by reducing weight and not adding horsepower. Audi does not give us exact numbers, but they do provide examples. Package-specific wheels weigh 26.4 pounds, and new titanium backing plates for brake pads (yes, the plates to the pads) reduce another 2.2 pounds. Engineers were keen to reduce tonnage whenever possible.
The Competition package, on the other hand, adds weight in form of additional downforce. The aero kit includes a carbon fiber aerokit that includes a fixed rear spoiler, front spoiler and side sills as well as the rear diffuser. These changes double the downforce of the R8 V10 plus at 150 km/h (93 MPH). The aero kit provides 220 pounds more force and can be run at 315 km/h (193 MPH).
However, the Competition package isn’t just for business. The exterior pieces are finished with black trim, and the interior is fitted with a full-leather package. New racing seats are fitted with red contrast stitching and an Alcantara steering knob with a cool red circle marking the 12 o’clock position. Carbon fiber shift handles are also included. Audi engineers may not have been so keen to save weight with so many speakers in such small greenhouses.
These additions add a substantial premium to the R8V10 Plus. The suggested retail price for the Competition package is $237,350. This is an increase of $43,000. However, there are only 10 units available across the country so actual sales prices could be higher.
