Engineers and designers are beginning to think about the future. Honda Civic Type R Both sides suggest that major changes could be coming for the next generation. The process is still in its infancy, so there is no way to know for sure
Unnamed insiders inform Pistonheads that the next Civic Type R will use some degree of electrification. However, another high-ranking employee stated publicly that the next generation wouldn’t be fully electrical.
“We believe it would be very easy to achieve Type R performance using a full-EV right now,” Kohei Hitomi told Pistonheads. It’s about drivingability, handling, and operation. It’s not as easy as just replacing it with electric power. This is not the best direction for Type R.
These statements, if true, suggest that engineers may be looking to make the next Civic Type R a hybrid.
Additionally, Honda designers indicated to Pistonheads, that the Honda E Prototype’s retro-looking shape points towards the future styling direction. This plan could include the next Civic so that the CTR’s successor might have a futuristic appearance.
It still has plenty of life in the Civic Type R. The 2018 spy shots indicate that the Civic Type R is getting a facelift. The engineers may have made some mechanical improvements to the model that would allow it to compete in the hot hatch category. Honda has already made minor modifications for the 2019 model year. These included a new color, and an expansion of the standard equipment.
