The Tesla Model Y wasn’t yet available.
The secret is out. The secret is out. As we have experienced in our Mach-E first driver, the stylish crossover is light and agile despite its size. These characteristics don’t happen by chance. Ford spoke to us about the Mach-E and its development. He also mentioned the Porsche Macan’s contribution to the process. Blue Oval was aware of electric competition, especially from Tesla and the model Y. Kaufman said that many of these competitors had not launched their vehicles before Mach-E development started.
Ford opted for a comparable-sized crossover that offered exceptional performance. The Porsche Macan compact crossover is one of the most performance-oriented on the market. It has remarkable balance and a determined bite when turning on twisty roads. The Mach-E offers the same feel and the pricing structure is slightly lower than the Porsche. However, the EV ‘Stang looks even more impressive. This story has an interesting twist. The traditional Mustang is one vehicle that was not used to benchmark Mach-E. Obviously the Mach-E with its four-door, five-seat design and electric powertrain is a completely different animal from the internal-combustion-powered coupe. This could cause pony car enthusiasts to lament the Mustang branding on Mach-E. However, we think a base Mach-E model is infinitely more fun to drive than a 1979 Fox Body Mustang with four cylinders and an automatic transmission.
Mustang lines are blurred no matter what you do. However, it is possible to see that blurred lines are not necessarily a negative thing when you understand how the Mach-E was created.
