This is not the Lamborghini that you are looking for…
Spend enough time online and you will soon find a variety of ads that play tricks on your perception of reality. These ads are for cars but they don’t exist. You have seen the Ferrari built on top a Pontiac Firero. Although it’s not new, it looks odd. While some examples are more impressive than others, there is an uncanny valley that your brain can’t seem too navigate. Fiero Ferrari’s are a favourite, but other exotic automakers don’t mind imitation. We have a Lamborghini Aventador replica that hails out of Huntsville, Alabama.
It is not a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster. The Craigslist ad states that the Lambo rides in a 2004 Pontiac GTO. After a 30-plus year hiatus, this is the GTO’s fourth-generation. The donor GTO is used in every aspect of the Aventador replica, from the drivetrain to mechanicals to electronics. The GTO was equipped with the 300-horsepower 5.7 liter LS1 V8 that was offered in the Corvette. The four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels. The GT0 was introduced by Pontiac in 2005. It claims that a sprint from 0 to 60 mph took just 5.3 seconds and a quarter-mile race takes 13.8 seconds. This is not Lamborghini-level performance.
This Aventador replica has the engine at the front and a “dummy engine” mounted midship. It’s not clear what this means. The glass faux rear hood of the replica is transparent. However, it’s difficult to see what the “dummy engine” is without proper images. A placard indicates that the replica 2013 Lamborghini has a 7.0-liter V12 producing 700 horsepower and 600 pound-feet torque.
Although the proportions of this replica Lamborghini Aventador are a bit smaller than the real thing, there is some great craftsmanship in capturing Lamborghini’s hard-lined design philosophy. The fourth-gen GTO did not include a convertible, so the person who built the replica must have done a lot of work. The interior features a raised console in the center that is identical to the original Aventador. It also includes a push-button start. The look is completed by the Lamborghini script and emblem on the steering wheel. Although $30,000 may seem high for a GTO that is over ten years old, it is an affordable price for a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster 2013.
