The car is fully stock, and the new tires are street legal.
If you haven’t been living under a rock the past year, then you know the McLaren is an absolute beast at the drag strip. This video shows that the 650S successor to Woking’s Super Series car is faster than most stock production supercars. McLaren claims that the 720S takes 2.8 seconds to go from 0-60 mph (96 km/h), but if you have the right tires, it will take only 2.39 seconds.
This McLaren 720S is still available, but it has been fitted with new shoes. The original Pirelli P Zero Corsa Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires have been replaced with street-legal Toyo R888Rs. Although the original tires had a good tread life of 1,500 miles (2.4114 km), DragTimes felt that they were not as sticky and recommended the swap.
The 720S was seen riding on the Toyo set (again street-legal) and making some impressive numbers at the drag strip. According to track organizers, the quarter mile took 9.765 seconds and was 144.80 mph (233 kph). The vbox showed 9.79 seconds and the time at 145.01 (233.37 km/h) mph. This time was 2.39 seconds in the McLaren sprint at 0-60 mph (0–96 kph), and 4.9 seconds in the McLaren run at 0-100mph (0–160 kph). Are you still not impressed? It took only 5.27 seconds to go from 60 to 130 mph (96.5-208 kph), and 10.36 seconds to get to 0 to 150mph (241 km/h).
The 720S’ 0-60 mph speed is several tenths faster than the Senna or the GTR . These machines are track-focused and technically are a league above 720S because they’re part the Ultimate Series. Although 0-60 mph may not be the best, it shows McLaren has created a supercar that is almost unbeatable on the drag strip.
