Chrysler announced plans to invest $1.7 billion (EUR1.22 billion) in the next-generation Jeep Liberty, Toledo, Ohio.
The redesigned crossover is expected to launch in 2013 as a 2014 model. It will be based on a front-wheel-drive platform that promises to offer a more car-like driving experience. Off-road enthusiasts won’t like this, but it should be possible to have all-wheel drive.
Although engine options are still unknown, Car & Driver suggests that there could be a 1.8 liter four-cylinder as well as an upgraded 2.4 liter four-cylinder and a 3.6 liter Pentastar-V6.
The 2014 Liberty will be exported worldwide regardless of final specifications. It is expected to have a premium interior and a more precise fit and finish.
