It is what we want, and it is what we want now.
Rallying has hosted some of the most unusual motorsport cars over the years. There are many cars that have been seen on the stages, from the flame-breathing Formula 1 cars with fenders in the Group B days to the large-winged shopping vehicles of today.
This includes this: It may look like the hatchback Europeans turn into rally cars these day, but unlike our four-pots that bang and pop, this one has an engine. It’s true, someone has stuffed a V8 in a car about the size of a postage stamp.
This bizarre creation was revealed at the Performance Racing Industry Show last Wednesday. It is Pat Moro’s rally and rallycross driver and his PMR Motorsports team. PMR Motorsports will keep details about the V8-powered Chevrolet Sonic under wraps for now. However, we know that the crate engine is a Chevrolet LS3 and sends power to all the wheels.
The Chevrolet’s bulletproof off-the shelf engine LS3 is used in the Corvette, Camaro and high-performance Holdens. It is also used in many of the cars in the Fast & Furious franchise. The LS3 is available for purchase at just $8,000 and produces 430 bhp (576 Nm) and 425 lb.ft (576 nm) of torque. It comes in a handy wooden box and is delivered directly to your home.
The engine is not the only improvement. You can also get a stylish widebody kit and all the usual competition refinements such as weight reduction and a roll-cage.
The pocket-rocket will compete in the American Rally Association series next year, which is the U.S. premier rally championship. Team co-owner Moro will drive the vehicle with Ole Holter taking the pace notes.
This car is currently a one-off, built for competition. However, I will treat it as an official appeal at General Motors. Please build this production model. This car can be sold as a production model. This can also be counted as my order.
