This 911, despite having its top up is nearly completely naked.
A new Porsche 911 coupe is a new 911 conversion. Our spy photographers captured the best view yet of what the new soft-top sports car would look like. It looks very much like a 911 coupe with cloth roof. It looks a lot like a 911 coupe with a cloth roof, which is not surprising considering the all-new 992-series 911 that impressed us at the 2018 Los Angeles autoshow.
Surprisingly these spy photos suggest that the convertible will outperform the coupe, the more attractive member of the 911 family. The low-slung fabric roof blends with the retractable rear wings and rear tonneau covers. Take in the B-pillarless bodysides and take in the tonneau cutlines that emphasize the car’s large hips. We can only cover a few pieces with camouflage and use our imaginations for filling in the gaps that the black tape leaves.
We expect the 911 convertible, like its coupe counterpart, to be available in high-horsepower Carrera S trim, with the Carrera S model following soon. The rear-mounted, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-6 will deliver the same 443 horsepower (330 Kilowatts) through the eight-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. A seven-speed manual gearbox and an all-wheel-drive Carrera 4S are almost certain to join the ranks of the convertible.
The 911 Carrera S drop-top will have a sticker cost that is more than $10,000 higher than its $113,300 coupe equivalent. The 911 convertible will debut in 2019, with sales beginning shortly after.
