Many children were able to ride in Miatas decorated with Christmas lights.
Why do you need reindeer when there are plenty of horsepower? Japan’s national Mazda MX-5 Miata club has made it a tradition to dress up as Santa Claus and decorate their cars. They also do charitable work. The official blog of Mazda states that the drives have been in Yokohama since 10 years, and in Tokyo since 3 years. The members expanded held a Hiroshima gathering for the first year.
26 Mazda Miatas from all generations attended the first Santa drive in Hiroshima. Mazda executives and employees were also present. Participants decided to take children on open-roofed rides throughout the city in aid of the Hiroshima prefecture single parent family welfare association. The festive parade of Miatas decorated with Christmas lights attracted many people to the streets. They waved at each other as the cars drove past, and the young passenger and driver yelled Merry Weihnachten. Even the designer of the fourth-gen Miata was there to draw sketches for the children.
According to Japanese Historical Nostalgic Car, Miata-driving Santas drove children around Yokohama. Children also had the opportunity to tour Mazda’s R&D centre in the city.
Mazda will be displaying presents at the Tokyo Auto Salon shortly after Christmas. This year’s Mazda Roadster Drop-Head Coupe Concept adds a removable carbon fiber hardtop onto the Miata. Although it is not clear if the company will sell the aftermarket part at this time, the piece looks like the perfect accessory to Miata drivers who need extra protection for their roof.
