Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept foretells Brand’s Electric Future

The company confirmed the production of an all-electric, high performance SUV.

Infiniti will finally lift the veil on the Inspiration concept. This previews a future all-electric SUV and introduces the brand’s new design language for electric vehicles. The study measures 183 inches (4650 mm) in length, and is approximately the same size as that of the new HTML50. However, it features a completely different design approach, with a more balanced and cab-forward shape, and shorter overhangs at both the front and back.

Designers were able to adapt the dimensions of the concept without the need for a large internal combustion engine. They also gave it a smooth fascia with an illuminated Infiniti logo and smooth surfaces. The SUV is equipped with massive 22-inch wheels at all four corners. They are protected by muscular wheel arches covered in protective black panels.

“Electrification allows us to move the interior forward, while a V8 engine can move it backwards. It also balances the profile. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t achieve a new level of performance. Alfonso Albaisa Senior Vice President for Global Design at Nissan explains the design concept behind the concept.

Although no performance or power details have been disclosed, the QX Inspiration has a battery pack under the floor that powers two electric motors. One for each axle. The flat floor creates a spacious, comfortable interior that is more lounge-like than a traditional driveshaft or transmission tunnel. A large screen runs from pillar to post on the dashboard.

Although the Japanese premium manufacturer isn’t ready to reveal when the QX Inspiration will be produced, it is happy to say that the model “signals the brand’s intention to create a fully-electric midsize SUV.” The QX Inspiration will be powered by an electric motor and an all-wheel drive system (e-AWD). Infiniti promises “blendering off-the line acceleration” and a low center-of-gravity for “confidence in every situation.”

Christian Meunier (President and Chairman of Infiniti), said that the Infiniti QX Inspiration is the start of a new generation Infiniti cars. It also establishes a blueprint for Infiniti’s first electric car. The SUV concept is based on an entirely new electric vehicle architecture, and inspired by Infiniti’s Japanese DNA. It previews a product range that will provide high performance, low emissions, and great range confidence.
