It’s not Q3 Sportback.
Audi missed the coupe-SUV launch party with the Q8, but it will make up the difference by launching a new model. The Q4 will debut in the second quarter of 2012. This is less than two months since we first saw the prototype.
Our talented designers were asked to create the production version and remove all the camouflage from the test cars. The result is the car in the attached gallery. It looks great. It’s actually not difficult to predict what Audi’s design plans are as spy photos have revealed Audi’s formula.
Let’s just say that we took the Q3 and gave it a steeper roofline, more prominent fascia, larger wheels, and beefier arches. This is the Q4. It will compete with the BMW X2, next generation Mercedes GLA and the newly unveiled Range Rover Evoque. And it will be Audi’s most trendy crossover vehicle.
The Q4 is based on Q3 so it will inherit almost everything from Q3 – powertrains and technologies included. Regular models will feature a range of three- to four-cylinder gasoline or diesel engines, which send power to the front wheels. AWD is an option, while the RS model will have a 5-cylinder 2.5-liter turbo engine.
Reports suggest that we will see the first ever Q4 in Q3 2019. The sales are expected to be before the year ends and the RS Q4 range-topper will join the range in the early part of next year. However, some publications claim that it will sport the Q3 Sportback moniker. This is unlikely.
