Toyota GR Supra Super GT Signs A90's Racing Ambitions
This concept car will be transformed into a race car in the Super GT series next season.

Toyota HQ had a plan. They wanted to show the Supra road-going model at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2019 with the concept version of the Supra. Toyota Mexico’s mistake by accidentally tweeting an video showing the A90 in all its glory before it was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. It doesn’t mean that we should ignore the GR Supra Super GT, especially as it is more than a preview of the fifth generation Supra.

As our sister site Motorsport.com According to reports, the concept is currently displayed at TAS The Supra will be transformed into a racecar for 2020 and will compete in the Super GT Class. This class will adopt the Class One regulations created with DTM. Toyota will take over Lexus’ role in the series by bringing back the Supra to the track. 2019 will mark the end of the LC’s participation in the series.
This isn’t the first race car concept that Toyota has revealed based on the Supra. The GR Supra Racing concept, which was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, was presented almost a year ago to indicate Toyota’s intention of creating a track-ready version via its Toyota Gazoo Racing division.

The road-going Sub has been in our sights since January 2014, when Toyota presented the FT-1 concept at Detroit Auto Show. It will be available for production on Monday, January 14, after five years of waiting and several teasers. A hotter GRMN derivative is already confirmed and will be launched later in A90’s lifetime.

The Supra GRMN will not be Toyota’s flagship model in its go-faster Gazoo Racing division. That role has been occupied by the GR Super Sport hypercar. Yes, Toyota will make a hypercar that has nearly 1,000 horsepower.
